IANA Blog- March 2024

Image
Blog Happy March, I still remember on March 7th, me and some of my coworkers went to go watch Dune: Part II in theaters. My coworkers wanted to go watch the film in an IMAX theater, as for me, I didn’t care which theater I wanted to watch it in, as long as I got to watch it. I still remember watching Dune: Part I in Oakland. I remember as it was near the end of the film, I wanted to watch more. I wanted to see more, but I waited and when the day came, I told myself to watch it. Before I talk a little bit about the movie, let me talk about Dune: Part I …oh and just like my last blog, when I was reviewing Bob Marley: One Love …SPOILER ALERT…If you haven’t watched any of the films yet…you should not read this review… Both movies are adapted from the novel Dune , which is considered one of the greatest science fiction novels of all time. This novel influenced other sci-fi films, especially the Star Wars franchise, and after watching both films, I can see the influence. It’s also i...

IANA Blog- February 2024

Happy February and Happy Black History Month, I wanted to switch it up a little bit and talk about a film I saw this February. I went to watch Bob Marley: One Love , a biopic about the legendary Reggae artist, singer and songwriter Bob Marley. As a huge Bob Marley fan, and especially since Bob Marley’s birthday is this month, this was one of the films I wanted to see, especially considering I never thought a film about Bob Marley would ever be made, especially considering the troubles about a Bob Marley film even being thought of. I literally spent my day listening to Bob Marley songs until the premiere. After finally watching the film, I wanted to give my thoughts on it…and I’m probably gonna spoil some parts of the film, so if you have not watched the film and want to…you should probably stop reading and go watch it…and also, this is my opinion, obviously. …Cool… …as I said, spoilers ahead… So, after watching the film in theaters, I found it to be alright. A little formulaic like mos...

IANA Blog- November 2023

B log Happy November, As I’ve been continuing to pay attention to what’s going on in Palestine, one memorable moment I found myself in was arguing with a Nigerian on Facebook. He basically had a stupid way of saying “Palestinians are getting what they deserve,” and blamed it on their religion. I told him basically that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I even tried to explain how it’s all connected, unfortunately he wasn’t listening. Back and forth, the argument pretty much turned into insults and threats, and the argument ended with me telling him that he sounds like an idiot and needs to get off my page. As I was continuing to spread awareness on what’s going on in Palestine, I remembered that there’s genocides happening in the Congo, in Sudan and the situation that’s going on in Haiti. Let’s look back at a small bit of history for each country and how they got where they are right now. Congo: -The Democratic Republic of the Congo aka Congo and formerly known as Zaire an...

IANA Blog- October 2023

Image
Blog Happy October, For those that don’t know, October is one of my favorite months, not just because of Halloween, but it’s also my Birthday month along with the Birthday month of Fela Kuti and the month of Nigerian Independence Day and the anniversary of the Black Panther Party. Unfortunately, I couldn’t fully enjoy my Birthday week, especially with what’s going on in the world that week. In case you missed it, the Israel-Palestine “conflict” has gotten more intense although it’s been like that every year. If you don’t know much about the Israel-Palestine “conflict,” there is definitely a good Google search to learn more about it, especially since it would take me forever to explain the conflict, so I’ll just keep it short and sweet…a story of settler colonialism, ethnic cleansing and imperialism; the involvement of Palestinians having their land taken away by Israel. In other words, Israel=Bad Guys, Palestine=Good Guys, while the media is doing what they do best, depicting Isr...

IANA Blog- September 2023

Image
Blog Happy September, This blog is going to be different from the last ones. It’s going to be about music. This is Jan Wenner. He is a rock music journalist and the founder of the legendary Rolling Stone magazine. He is also one the founders of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame… …He is also an idiot…a privileged idiot… This September, it was revealed that Wenner released a book called “The Masters.” In this book, Wenner interviews legendary rock stars and musicians who are legends (and who he considers the “masters,”) in the music industry. The problem is…the musicians he selected to interview are all White males. Some of those musicians include Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Mick Jagger. Guess who he didn’t include in his book…Black musicians…and Female musicians. When asked why he didn’t include any Black or female musicians, he said they weren’t articulate enough… As soon as I heard that, I was like…Get the **** Outta Here! Because of that statement, Wenner was kicked off the R...
